About
Murray Armes trained originally as an architect and has over 40 years’ experience in the construction industry. After almost 25 years working in architecture, 17 of which were with his own practice, he was seeking a new challenge and enrolled on the Kings College MSc in Construction Law and Arbitration. On the first day students were told the course could change their lives and for Murray it did, because he saw an entirely new way of using his 25 years of experience to help participants in construction projects.
In 2012 he founded Sense Studio which employed a world class team of architects specialising in construction disputes and in particular the provision of architectural expert witness services. The practice was instructed in over 350 cases, both in the UK and internationally, including some of the largest, most complex and highest value disputes in the world. In 2021 Sense Studio was acquired by an international multidisciplinary consultancy.
Alongside his expert witness work, Murray has been taking instructions as adjudicator and arbitrator since 2006 and as mediator since 2009. He has had an active involvement in dispute boards since 2010 and his longest running appointment began in 2013. With Armes-ADR, Murray continues his legacy as an independent neutral.
